How to Replace Your Panerai Watch Strap (By Reference Number)

Even the best original Panerai strap eventually needs replacing — leather dries out with age and use, not just cheap silicone. Here is how to find the right replacement strap for your specific Panerai reference, without guessing.

YOUR ORIGINAL STRAP WEARS OUT TOO — EVEN IF IT IS LEATHER

It is easy to assume leather straps only need replacing when they crack from neglect. In practice, even a well-cared-for original strap softens, stretches at the buckle holes, and loses its shape after a few years of regular wear. That is normal, not a sign anything went wrong — it just means it is time for a fresh strap rather than a repair.

LUG WIDTH BY PANERAI REFERENCE

Panerai does not use one lug width across the whole line, so the fastest way to get this right is by case size or reference number rather than guessing:

40mm case: 20mm or 22mm lug width, depending on the specific reference
42mm case: 22mm lug width
44mm case (most Luminor Base, Luminor Marina and Luminor Submersible references): 24mm lug width
47mm case (many Radiomir references): 26mm lug width, though some use 27mm
Luminor Due: 22mm lug width, notably slimmer than the standard Luminor line

If you know your PAM reference number (the three or four digits after "PAM" on the case back or papers), match it to the case size above rather than the overall watch name, since references with similar names can still differ.
